Clapton Property Guide
Living & Property in Clapton
Trains from both Clapton and Homerton stations offer excellent transport to the City, West-End and Stratford to the east, buses are numerous, but many people take a bike.
Clapton (or Clopton, meaning farm on the hill, as it was originally named) has its modern-day origins as an affordable alternative to neighbouring Hackney. Its proximity to the great outdoors, still served by Millfields & Springfield Parks and the River Lea canal that snakes alongside, provided a desirable dimension to living in the locality. Over recent years, Clapton, and the property within the area, have become the borough’s best kept secret. A mix of traditional, long-standing independent shops, new restaurants & bars alongside established pubs & eateries with an array of cuisines, those excellent green spaces and a choice of great schools all served, and reflected, the local populous. This vibrant, diverse community continues to thrive today, albeit no longer hidden away.
Property in Clapton is almost exclusively Victorian (although some magnificent Georgian architecture remains), houses set out on quiet residential streets that bridge the bustle of the Lower-Clapton and Chatsworth Roads. Towards the river Lea and Hackney Wick purpose-built modern apartments blend with commercial buildings now changed for residential use.
